4 Best Winter Treks for Beginners – Experiencing the Snow Like in no other way

Sandakphu – The best time to trek in Sandakphu of West Bengal is during winter months, but most people opt for trekking in other months. It is only in Sandakphu that you get the best view of the four tallest mountains: Kanchenjunga, Mount Everest, Lhotse and Makalu. As you breathe in the fresh and crisp mountain air, you get a glimpse of the entire range of Kanchenjunga. If the sky is clear, you can also get a glimpse of Pandim and Nuptse. These two will be your constant companions as you bridge the distance between Sandakphu and Phalut. The best thing about this trek is that sometimes you are not even aware whether you are in India or Nepal. Juggling borders without a passport is what you will effortlessly experience as you move from Tonglu in India to Tumbling in Nepal and beyond! It will take 7 days to complete the trek in its entirety. It is a good start for beginners, but there are spans which may be a little tiresome (Kalipokhari to Sandakphu, and next day to Phalut). The best months are from September to May to get an amazing view of the peaks. Rhododendrons are in full bloom April onwards. If you are not an expert, avoid the chilly months of October to January, as the trail will be covered under thick sheets of snow, when its practically impossible to trek.
