Hampta Pass, a treasure for the very enthusiastic, passionate amateur trekkers, holds the charm and excitement like any other treks in the Himalayas. The scenic landscape exposes trails that meander through alpine forests, huge rock formations, and remarkable rich vegetation. It is a high altitude trek taking place 14,000ft above sea level. Get bewildered by its unbounded beauty, when nature seems to have painted an enchanting frame with every possible myriad hue. Not only that the Chandratal Lake trekking experience introduces you to the captivating beauty of the Himalayan meadows, cold desert, flora and fauna of the Lahual and Spiti valley, it also get you close to the life and spirit amidst the lofty peaks. With easy gradients, climbs and descends, this trek will definitely satiate your entire quench for trekking in the Indian Himalayas.
The best thing about this trek is gradual altitude gain that makes it ideal for beginners and inexperienced mountaineers too. This excursion begins from the picturesque hill station of Manali and will take you through different regions of the Himalayas. Your first stop will be Chika – a beautiful valley – where you will reach after travelling through evergreen forests of deodars, spruces and firs. On the way, you will see numerous little villages, where you may learn about the traditional way of living in this part of the country. The following phase of Hampta Pass trekking is among the prettiest. As you walk through the mountains, you will see the area covered with different species of colorful flowers. Also from this part onwards, the hike will become challenging due to the rapid gains in height. On the way, you will cross many little streams until you reach Balu ka Gera, a valley where brown bears descend from higher elevations to hibernate in winters.
